The Perfect Cup of Cocoa…
Today we were blessed with a spring blizzard day off of school. Only the second day off for snow this year!
But funny thing about spring snow storms in our parts. They truly come in like a lion…and peter out like a little new born lamb. Last night you would have thought this might be one for the record books, heavy wet snow that was blowing sideways, covering stop signs and street lights making them unreadable. It was so bad that the school district closed schools last night!
Yet today when we awoke, the sky was blue, the sun was shining, and our little sprouts were sprouting as if nothing had happened. I thought “Wohoo! Let’s go sledding! Then we can come home and have hot chocolate!”
Of course by the time we had any motivation at all to get out of pj’s it was 40 degrees out, the snow was melting, and I was unable to find new snow gloves for my son at the store, as the puppy ate one of them two weeks ago, leaving the remnants all over the living room for me to remember her unforgivable act.
I decided that sledding was probably out, as the grass was beginning to poke through that 10 inches of snow quickly. Snowman, I mean Snowwoman, it was then! We all donned our snow pants and sunglasses and snow hats, no coats even needed, and out to the front yard we went to make the perfect snowwoman.
The hot cocoa was unfortunately not forgotten by the little ones, even at 40 degrees, so homemade hot cocoa I made, and it was so delicious! With spring storms something we can continue to expect for some time, I thought I would share the deliciousness with all of you…make sure you make it during the next snow! You never know when it will be the last!
Yummiest, Most Responsible, Homemade Hot Cocoa
I don’t have exact measurements, because everyone’s taste isn’t the same, and it all depends on how much you are making at once! Most online recipes do their measurements by the cup…yeah right…a cup in this house wouldn’t last 30 seconds.
Organic Whole Milk (As much as you need)
Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Powder
Fair Trade Vanilla Extract
Dash of salt
Agave Nectar
Organic Whipping Cream
Organic Cinnamon
~Warm the milk on the stove top. While it is warming, whip away your Organic Whipping Cream, when it is almost peaky and whipped, add a bit of Agave and a bit of Organic Vanilla Extract and whip some more.
~When your milk is toasty, add the Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Powder, a dash of salt, some of the vanilla, and Agave, all to your own personal taste of course!
~Place the homemade whipped yumminess on the top of your cocoa and add a sprinkle of Organic Cinnamon. The cinnamon is truly the kicker.
Enjoy!
Spill it: Do share any hot cocoa secrets of your own! One can never have enough hot cocoa options!
