Reading Activity For Kids

We have been working on Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons for both kids this year.  My son is doing great, but as we got into the book with my daughter I decided it was going a little fast for her Kindergarten attention span so we eased up a bit.  In lieu of that I went looking for reading activities in which she could practice what she learned so far and not be inundated with new information.

On Little Brick Cottage I found this awesome activity which I made myself with supplies already in my house right away.

This is the finished project used the first day!  I made it out of pink poster board that we had, drew up the sheets with a sharpie and a ruler and bits of writing paper we had cut up to fit in the last column.  Then I copied the paper in the printer, printed the words out at the top, glued it to the poster board, then laminated it with contact paper.  They can use it over and over with dry-erase pens! reading activity for kids the evolving homemaker Pin It

I already had these letters on hand that I recently purchased from a local teaching warehouse, I found the bins at Hobby Lobby to store them in, half of the alphabet in each bin.

I printed the words on white card stock instead of paper so they would hold up to the wear and tear of daily use. We started with the Dolch pre-primer list. kindergarten reading practice the evolving homemaker Pin It

This is my daughter hard at work!

This turned out to be easy to make and a fun activity for her to do while her brother is reading away in the higher lessons!  I LOVE this find.
