The Evolving Homemaker

One improbable housewife's odyssey into the realm of mothering, cooking, crafting, gardening, and more…

My New Love

For well over four years, I have wanted to learn how to drum.  We live in an area where coming across a drum circle in random places is not unheard of, in fact it is with regularity!  I always knew I wanted to learn, but was too intimidate, didn’t want to be embarrassed, totally musically inept.  Take your pick.

But I finally decided it was time.

I have been getting reminders lately that life is short.  No matter your age, your health, the type of food you eat, or your exercise plan, something could spring itself into your awareness without regard to those things which ‘you haven’t gotten to yet’.

We get one shot at this deal this time around, if we aren’t living a life full of passion, we might as well cash in our chips now and let someone who is have our space.

So here is my new love, ain’t she perty?

I am so excited.  I have been taking a class for a month, and even went to my first drum circle last week.  I sucked.  But it was SO fun that I couldn’t stop even after I got a nickle size bruise on my hand!

It wasn’t cheap, and I am as guilt ridden as anyone could be, even though it is my Christmas present and my husbands phones cost the same amount.  I am just not comfortable spending that much on something for me.  AND, my first bought and paid for by me car was only $50 more!  Who cares if it didn’t have any AC, was built the same year I was born, and leaked windshield washer fluid all over my feet?

So, I will journey into this new adventure, trying to not care about others expectations, not be ridden by guilt, and just enjoy whatever this will mean.

Here is to trying something new!

Spill it: What have you tried new lately that was a challenge for you or totally outside your box?  Anything you WANT to try but haven’t gotten around to it?

Oh, you have some GREAT resources down there! I’m envious of all the African dance and music on the front range. I heart Fara Tolno and Muputo Mensa. I think they teach drum classes in Boulder. YAY for you!

ha ha! I just saw your comment on my blog, by the way…you are about the LEAST of all slackers. I haven’t practiced an instrument in…let’s not go there. Or done laundry or dishes or really housework of any kind. So I feel a bit slacker-ish, myself :)
